Experience
I’m a committed academic, currently in the process of preparing for applications to doctoral programs in cultural psychology. I work part-time in a psychology lab and I substitute teach in public schools a few days a week. I have worked with all ages. Through my teaching experience, both in Los Angeles and during my graduate studies, I have seen a vast array of learning disabilities and learning skill-sets and have worked with some very talented students. I have witnessed students overcome challenges, meet their goals, and excel wonderfully—when they feel heard, seen, and understood. I recently relocated to Westwood and am seeking opportunities to build long-term collaborative relationships with families seeking homework help and educational coaching for their students. As a tutor, I bring with me a diverse background of influences and skill sets. I have been influenced by my experiences growing up in a small village, learning academic rigor, and excelling in professional environments, which resulted in the development of skills such as giving strong academic presentations, being a resourceful person, and believing in myself and those whom I collaborate with. My current plans are to develop and maintain an active tutoring practice throughout my graduate studies, as my experience has taught me that working relationally with students is not only a deeply rewarding experience, but it also provides rich insight into the learning process itself. In my free time I swim with US Masters Swimming and develop curriculum that integrates principles of postmodern design, self, and contextual practice.
