Education
I am currently a senior at CSUN majoring in Aerospace Engineering with a 3.5 GPA I am on the Dean's list among the top 10% of the Engineering students. I am also apart of the Honors Society for Collegiate Scholars. Having graduated from Notre Dame High School with honors, I have always worked hard, continuously adapting to overcome challenges, and aspiring to accomplish my dreams.
Experience
In my former Middle School, St. Jane Frances De Chantal, the afterschool program dedicated an hour to do homework. After I graduated I kept going back as a volunteer to help out and tutor students K-8th grade. They also had a Summer Camp that likewise dedicated time to learning and exercising the students minds throughout the Summer. Although I was paid as a Summer Camp councilor I also helped in tutoring the students. These were my first tutoring experiences and I participated in them from 2007 to 2010. In College I am a part of the CSUN VEX Robotics Club. In 2013 the Education Department asked us to participate in Project Grad. This program was for students 6th to 8th grade to encourage them to pursue a college degree and to enrich their minds. Me and a few other members taught Robotics to 3 periods of students. We created the lesson plans and spread them throughout the 5 week program. The following year, 2014, they wanted us to come back and teach, however this time they wanted us for the Summer Academic Enrichment Program (SAEP). We did the exact same thing only we expanded to teaching them electronics and also their numbers were much greater; about 25 students per period. Being 22 years of age and barely beginning my career, high school and the first semesters of high school are still fresh in my mind. This means I can relate to students really well because I went through the same classes and struggles they may be going through. With this I may be able to mentor them as well, give them advice in their years through school and their transition to college such as time management, dedication, and perseverance. Aside from my many years of experience working with students from K-8th grade, I am outgoing and enthusiastic about learning. Meaning I make learning fun and enjoyable making references to their favorite TV shows that their teachers may not know and I also show them different point of views and methods to solving problems. If they do not understand one way I keep changing my approach to one they can grasp instead of forcing them to do it one certain way. Although the subject matter is serious, I always find a way to make them smile and laugh so that they will not feel intimidated when they encounter the problem; this may also help them remember how to do a problem. This Summer I did not work in the SAEP program because I wanted to find a way to reach other students who may not know of the program or may not be able to afford it. This is the reason why I was looking for a job as a tutor. Being a tutor will aslo help me expand my reach to other students as well as offer flexibility to a full time undergraduate Senior.
