I have a BA in history form UCLA (summa cum laude, 2002) and a Ph.D. in American History from the University of Virginia (2011).
Experience
I taught history at both UVA and UC Riverside, and I have been teaching American and European history, APUSH, AP English, EF, and intensive writing privately to high school and college students since 2013. My personal work focuses on nineteenth and twentieth-century American history with a special emphasis on the Civil War, Reconstruction, historical memory, the Progressive Era, and national reconciliation. My first book, Across the Bloody Chasm: the Culture of Commemoration Among Civil War Veterans, is available from the Louisiana State University Press. I am the creator and host of Keith Harris History, a multi-media American history network. I am currently writing a book on the making of the controversial silent film, The Birth of a Nation. I lives and work in Hollywood, California.
